Holidays are the end of the year and the beginning of the new one. The first few days after Pokljuka IBU World Cup were very peaceful, there were enough good results to stay calm and work steadily through the last days of the ending year. For me the best time of the year was ahead of us and spending time at home charges your batteries faster than anything. Christmas is very important for me because it’s the calmest time of the year and I completely forget about any stress and pressure. Sometimes sitting in the dark with only a few candles lighting only the decorated Christmas tree I dream about new goals in life.

I spent a lot of time with my girlfriend and family for Christmas. In the days after we gathered again on Pokljuka for training camp. This year Teja and I were invited to Schalke Biathlon World Team Challenge. It was something special, and we enjoyed the competition. After the New Year s Day, we departed for Oberhof, prepared for the new set of the IBU Word Cups. The relay race was hard and we finished sixth. In the days that followed the races were not so good, I finished 21st in the sprint and 33rd in the pursuit with a very poor shooting. The Oberhof stage is going to have to wait for another year for new and exciting races. Ruhpolding has somehow become a special stage for me. Last year I won the World champion title in the Individual race. And I was eager to start again on the same tracks. The relay competition we finished on the eighth position, the sprint and the mass start where to follow. I felt better than in Oberhof and I worked on my shooting. In the sprint competition I finished 12th missing one shot, and then the big battle was about to begin. In mass start I missed two shots and finished on the sixth place, I was eager to finish in the top three but the field was so strong and I managed to finish sixth. We left for Antholz in better mood than we came in.

In Antholz there finally wa a lot of natural snow, such an atmosphere for biathlon and such great food in Italy. I like the tracks in Antholz but I was a little bit worried about the altitude adaptation. The sprint race was almost perfect; I finished third, missing one shot. In the pursuit race I wanted to climb even higher in the scoreboard, the race was tough, and I finished second. I was happy and left Antholz with very good feelings. Now we are again on home ground, on Pokljuka preparing for the highlight of the season together with the Czech team, it’s nice to train with other teams. We hope to be all in good shape for the IBU World Championships races in Nove Mesto.

Yours, Jakov
