|Breathtaking Panorama and Impressive Performance|
|Part of the Swiss Word Cup Biathlon Team began their summer training in a breathtaking environment. For one week, the biathletes climbed and hiked through the peaks and glaciers of the Valais Alps.|
One-Week High Altitude Tour
Usually, the beginning of training for the Swiss athletes is marked by a cycling camp in Mallorca, but not this year. They stayed true to the thin bars and snow and marched through the Valais Alps in rope teams. A one-week high altitude mountain tour, led by mountain guide Raoul Volken led them from Bettmeralp over the Great Aletsch Glacier and the Konkordia Hut for four days through an area filled with Alpine treasures. Except on the first two days, when the weather was very bad, the Aletsch area presented itself in the best possible condition. Athletes Claudio Böckli, Mario Dolder, Ivan Joller and Benjamin Weger as well as Coach Jörn Wollschläger used this week as a team building experience.
Daily Training Routine
In the meantime, the Swiss athletes are back to their daily training routine, currently focusing on tough basics with an eye always focused on the next winter season. Benjamin Weger & Co are spending the early spring biking through the Alps, run through the hills of the Bernese Jura, while working on agility and strength.
Anniversary of Kidz Day
Another highlight awaits the team when the annual Biathlon Kidz Day celebrates its 10th Anniversary on June 9. About 100 kids train with the Swiss National Team that day, with the athletes working as coaches. Fun, as well as the basics of biathlon is on tap for the day. The novice biathletes will have the opportunity to get an impression of shooting, roller skiing, or walking a slack line at different training stations. For this year’s anniversary, Swiss Ski’s sponsor ODLO presented a special surprise and invited Ole Einar Björndalen. The best biathlete of the world will support the Swiss athletes on this day and work as a coach and ambassador for the sport alongside them.
