Germany Wins Women's Relay Gold

The women’s 4x6K relay European Championships title went to the German team of Nicole Wötzel, Vanessa Hinz, Franziska Preuss and Karolin Horchler., with no penalties and 10 spare rounds. The team from Czech Republic of Jitka Landova, Lea Johanidesova, Eva Puskarcikova, and Veronika Zvaricova were 24 seconds slower, using nine spare rounds. The Ukrainian team of Juliya Dzhyma, Iana Bondar, Iryna Varvynets and Mariya Panfilova had a total of 4 penalties and 11 spare rounds, 27.1 seconds back.

Gold for Doll in Pursuit

Germany’s Benedikt Doll won the men’s 12.5K pursuit in 35:35 with three penalties, putting him 22.3 seconds ahead of Norway’s Vetle Sjastad Christiansen who also had three penalties. Third place went to Russia’s Timofey Lapshin with two penalties, 25.5 seconds back.

Monika Hojnisz Takes Pursuit IBU OECH

Poland’s Monika Hojnisz shot clean despite difficult conditions and won the women’s 10K pursuit title today. Second went to Germany’s Franziska Preuss with two penalties, 1.43.2 back. Third place went to her teammate Karolin Horchler who advanced from 15th place at the start and won a medal by shooting clean. She was 2:21.3 back.

Christiansen Wins Sprint in Third Try

Norway’s Vetle Sjastad Christiansen shot clean and claimed won the title of European Champion in the men’s 10K in 25:34.4, after postponement of the competition on the two previous days. The competition was stopped previously due to heavy fog which made shooting impossible for some of the athletes. Silver went to Germany’s Benedikt Doll, with one penalty, 17.5 seconds back. Artem Pryma of Ukraine finished third with one penalty, 48.7 seconds back.

France Wins Junior’s Mixed Relay

The French team of Anais Chevalier, Floriane Parisse, Mathieu Legrand, and Quentin Fillon Maillet won the junior mixed relay at the IBU OECH in Bansko. With one penalty and 10 spare rounds, they were a mere one-tenth of a second faster than the Russian team. Elena Badanina, Elena Ankudinova, Alexander Chernyshov, and Timur Makhambetov needed 6 spare rounds. Third place went to Ukraine with Yuliya Zhuravok, Alla Gylenko, Ruslan Tkalenko and Artem Tyshchenko, 1:45.1 back, with eight spare rounds.

Irina Starykh Wins Women’s Sprint

Irina Starykh of Russia flew around the course on the last lap and secured the title as European Champion in the women’s 7.5K sprint in 21:28.1, with clean shooting. Ukraine’s Juliya Dhzyma in second place also shot clean but was 0.4 seconds slower. Monika Hojnisz of Poland in third place had one penalty, 5.6 seconds back.

Patricia Jost Wins Surprise Gold

witzerland’s Patricia Jost won the Gold medal in the junior women’s 10K pursuit in very difficult conditions. While the view on the targets was difficult, it was according to the rules and the same for everyone. Jost finished in 31:58.3, with two penalties. Silver went to Austria’s Lisa Hauser with six penalties, 1.05.7 back. Third place went to France’s Anais Chevalier with 5 penalties, 1:36.8 back.

Men’s Sprint Stopped Again

The men’s sprint had to be stopped again due to heavy fog. A new start time for Monday, February 25 is currently being calculated and will be published as soon as it is available. The women’s 7.5k sprint and the junior women’s pursuit stay scheduled for today.

Women’s Sprint at IBU OECH Cancelled

The women’s sprint at the IBU OECH in Bansko, Bulgaria also had to be cancelled due to heavy fog. The athletes had started the zeroing but with heavy fog in the stadium, fair and even competitions for all athletes could not be guaranteed.

Men s Sprint Stopped due to Heavy Fog

The men's 10k sprint competition at the IBU Open European Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria had to be stopped by jury decision due to heavy fog. It was not possible for some of the athletes to see the targets from the shooting ramp, fair conditions could not be guaranteed for all athletes. The new start time is scheduled for Sunday, February 24 at 12:00 local time/11:00 CET, the original start time for the pursuit competition. Other possible changes to the competition program are not decided on yet. The new entry lists for the men’s sprint are to be handed in by 16:00 local time, a new start list will be drawn. The men can participate in the official training scheduled later this afternoon, if they wish to do so. The women's 7.5k sprint is still scheduled for 15:00 local/ 14:00 Central European time today.
