Björndalen Not Hanging Up His Rifle Just Yet Video

It was big news when Ole Einar Björndalen won Gold in the Sochi Sprint and bigger news when he added another Gold medal in the mixed relay, making him the most decorated athlete in the Olympic Winter Games. However, he made even bigger news early this week, when he announced that he would continue his career for two more years, ending at the 2016 IBU WCH Biathlon in Oslo.

Gold for France and Russia in Youth Relays

The French trio of Estelle Mougel, Julia Simon and Lena Arnaud needed only four spare rounds to win the Youth Women’s Relay Gold medal this morning in 56:30.1. Russia, with Yaroslav Kostyukov, Dmitri Shamaev and Viktor Plitcev won the Youth Men’s 3 X 7.5K Relay in a 59:18.9 rout, with two penalties and 10 spare rounds, over two minutes ahead of the Silver medal team from Canada.

Pokljuka Sprint Win for Katharina Innerhofer

Austria's Katharina Innerhofer claimed her first World Cup victory and first podium of her career in this afternoon's women's sprint at Pokljuka. The 23-year-old shot clean while covering the 7.5k course in 21:19.1. Russia's Daria Virolaynen also had the best result of her career shooting clean to finish second, 9.2 seconds back. Nadezhda Skardino of Belarus matched her rivals on the shooting range but finished third, 12.1 seconds back.

Pokljuka Sprint to Bjorn Ferry

Sweden's Bjoern Ferry won for the first time this season, taking the men's sprint today at Pokljuka in 25:03.5 with one penalty. Ferry finished 1.5 seconds ahead of Russia's Anton Shipulin who shot clean. Third went Germany's Arnd Peiffer, with one penalty, 2.6 seconds back.

Gold for Germany’s Kummer and Norway’s Leren

Germany’s Luise Kummer won the one-hour delayed Junior Women’s 12.5K Individual Gold medal this morning in 36:24. Kummer shot clean for the second competition in a row, adding this Gold medal to the Silver she won in Sunday’s Junior Pursuit. After a 1:10 delay, Norway’s Tore Leren won the Junior Men’s 15K Individual Gold medal with two penalties, in 42:29.3.

Gold to Austria’s Schwaiger and Russia’s Kostyukov

Austria’s Julia Schwaiger shot clean to win the one-hour delayed Youth Women’s 10K Individual this morning in 32:58.7 at the IBU YJWCH in Presque Isle. In the afternoon, Russia’s Yaroslav Kostyukov had just two penalties, winning the Gold medal in the Youth Men’s 12.5K Individual in 35:22.6.

Pursuit Gold for USA’s Doherty and France’s Claude

Sean Doherty of the USA, with three penalties, won the Gold medal in the Youth Men's 10K Pursuit this afternoon in 28:51.8, his second Gold medal at the IBU YJWCH in Presque Isle, while Fabien Claude of France gave his country their first Gold medal when he won the afternoon Junior Men's 12.5K Pursuit in 33:02.8, with four penalties.

Gold for Italy’s Vittozzi and Kazakhstan’s Vishnevskaya

Both Gold medalists in the morning Women's Pursuit competitions were on the podium for the second day in a row. Italy's Lisa Vittozzi won her second Gold medal of these Championships claiming the Youth 7.5K Pursuit title, with seven penalties in 24:39.9 while Kazakhstan's Galina Vishnevskaya, after winning Silver in the Sprint claimed Gold in Junior Women's 10K Pursuit, with two penalties, in 32:36.3.
