First Career Win for Fanny Horn in Sprint

Norway's Fanny Welle-Strand Horn won for the first time in her World Cup career by taking the women's 7.5K sprint in 21:07.4. She finished 3.4 seconds ahead of Belarusian Darya Domracheva. Both women shot clean. Third went to Horn's teammate Tiril Eckhoff, with one penalty, 9.3 seconds back. Valja Semerenko of Ukraine shot clean in fourth, 21 seconds back. Mari Laukkanen of Finland had a single penalty in fifth place, 22.7 seconds back. Clean-shooting Franziska Hildebrand of Germany finished sixth, 28.6 seconds back.

Slepov and Gössner Win in Ridnaun

The weather brings a lot of surprises this season. As in Oberhof and Ruhpolding, everything has changed in Ridnaun just in one day; sun and blue skies on training day were changed by snow and fog during competitions. 133 men competed today, trying to claim the victory. Alexey Slepov of Russia won the men's sprint at IBU Cup 5 in Ridnaun in 28:18.0, while Miriam Gössner of Germany scored her second sprint victory in a row in 23:51.7 with one penalty.

The Anti-Doping Hearing Panel of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced the following decision on 15th of January 2015: 1. The athlete Mr. Edgars PIKSONS (LAT) is ineligible to compete for a period of two years, commencing from October 28, 2014. 2. All competition results of Mr. Edgars PIKSONS obtained from the date of the sample was collected (September 22, 2014) are disqualified with all of the resulting consequences.

Svendsen’s Sprints to Relay Victory

Norway's team of Ole Einar Björndalen, Erlend Bjoentegaard, Johannes Thingnes Boe and Emil Hegle Svendsen won the men's 4 X 7.5K relay today after Svendsen pulled away from Germany's Simon Schempp as they climbed over the final bridge. Norway's time of 1:09:42.3 with eight spare rounds put them 4.6 seconds ahead of Germany, who used only four spares. Russia, who had won the two previous relays this season, finished third, with 8 spare rounds, 8.4 seconds back. France finished fourth, with Austria fifth and Czech Republic in sixth.

Multi-talented Vitaliy Kilchytskyy Video

27-year-old Vitaliy Kilchytskyy is a journeyman Ukrainian biathlete who has been competing mainly at the IBU Cup level since 2006. He scored his first career victory last month, winning the 20K individual at Obertilliach. Today he will anchor the Ukraine men's relay here in Ruhpolding.

IBU Cup 5 in Ridnaun; Reallocation from Langdorf

IBU Cup 5 scheduled for Langdorf, Germany has been reallocated to Ridnaun, Italy due to the lack of snow and weather situation. Nevertheless, the schedule has stayed the same. The Organizing Committee in Ridnaun had a hard task to prepare the venue in a short time, for the competitions, which will start tomorrow with sprints. However they made it happen; the tracks are in a really good condition with enough snow, the shooting range is prepared well too.

Sigi Heinrich: Biathlon and Bison Burgers

Near the end of last season, he figured out a way to combine these two passions, a biathlon cookbook! His compilation of recipes from a wide range of well-known biathletes “Kulinarisch Volle Treffer” was published last month. Wet, Snowy Relay Win for Czech Republic

The Czech women's relay team of Eva Puskarcikova, Gabriela Soukalova, Jitka Landova and Veronika Vitkova won their second relay in a row today, after battling heavy snow and soft tracks. They used only 9 spare rounds while finishing in1:23:57.7. Second went to Belarus, with six spare rounds, 1:13.3 back while the home team Germany finished third, with one penalty and six spares, 1:39.9 back.
