Coaching Changes in Germany and Austria

This is the time of the year, especially in Olympic seasons when the coaching merry-go-round starts, with retirements, non-renewals of contracts and moves to new positions. Germany announced the changes in their biathlon coaching ranks just this week, while Austria announced that a new coach would be hired soon.

Ekholm, Forsberg, Löfgren Honored at Swedish Gala

The Swedish Biathlon Federation, at its 25th Anniversary celebration this past weekend, honored former World Cup Total Score titlists Helena Ekholm Magdalena Forsberg, and Mikael Lofgren with Hall of Fame status, seven weeks before the season opening mixed relay competition in Östersund. Ekholm, Forsberg, and Löfgren are the only Swedish winners of the World Cup Total Score.

Sprint Finish to a Training Camp Video

Rainy Training Day for US Team Video

“I woke up and almost wanted to just roll over and go back to sleep,” was Lowell Bailey’s reaction to the driving rain that awakened him on Wednesday morning at his hotel in Inzell, near Ruhpolding. Yet, Bailey and his US Biathlon teammates rolled out of bed as on a sunny day. Heavy rain or not, there was some training to be done. After mostly sunny and pleasant weather this was the first bad day for the US Biathlon Team, midway through their three-week training camp in Ruhpolding and Oberhof.

Swiss Men’s Team Training in Ruhpolding

Many people were surprised by the news, and especially its timing, at the end of last season. Steffen Hauswald resigned as head coach of the Swiss team to spend more time with his family. It was an unusual step just one year before the Olympic Games, but one that, at least, the Swiss men’s team seems to have gotten over quite well. The team is now training in Ruhpolding, with Hauswald’s former assistant, Jörn Wollschläger, now the head coach and his assistant Christian Stebler, who was in charge of the junior and IBU Cup teams last year.

Improvements Coming to Östersund Ski Stadium

In about five months, the 2013-14 E.ON IBU World Cup season will kick off with a mixed relay at the Östersund Ski Stadium. By then, the first of a series of improvements and changes to the stadium and surrounding area will be completed.
