IBU World Championships Inside Track Wrap-up Video

Records fell as the 2013 IBU World Championships wrapped up yesterday in Nove Mesto na Morave. By the time the last man had crossed the finish line in the mass start and the Czech Republic’s biathlon star serenaded the crowd at the closing ceremonies, there was no question that this year’s Championships were one for the record books.

Gold for Tarjei Boe in the Mass Start

Norway's Tarjei Boe gave Norway another Gold medal by claiming the men's mass start World Championship in 36:15.8, with clean shooting. Second went to Russia's Anton Shipulin with one penalty, 3.7 seconds back. The Bronze medal went to Boe's teammate, Emil Hegle Svendsen, with one penalty, 7.4 seconds back.

Domracheva Comes Back to Win Mass Start

Darya Domracheva of Belarus came back after not being a medal contender in the sprint , pursuit or individual to win the 12.5K mass start Gold medal today in 35;54.5, with two penalties. Norway's Tora Berger finished second, with two penalties, 8.7 seconds back. Poland won its second medal as Monika Hojnisz took the Bronze, with one penalty, 27.6 seconds back.

Norway Romps to Gold in Men’s Relay

Norway ran away with the men’s 4 x 7.5K relay Gold medal in 1:15:39, with five spare rounds. France with a huge charge over the final 2.5K by Martin Fourcade finished second, with two penalties and seven spare rounds, 1:12.8 back. third went to Germany, with two penalties and three spare rounds, 1:18.5 back.

Tora Pulls Norway to Relay Gold

Norway’s Tora Berger came from 38 seconds back at the exchange to win the women’s 4 X6K relay today in 1:08:11, with one penalty and nine spare rounds. Ukraine was second, with five spare rounds, seven seconds back. Italy surprised with a Bronze medal, 11.6 seconds back, with four spare rounds.

Gold for Martin Fourcade…Finally!

France’s Martin Fourcade won his first Gold medal of these 2013 IBU World Championships, by taking the men’s 20K individual, with one penalty, in 49:43. Fourcade now has three Silver medals and one Gold medal. Second went to the surprising Tim Burke of the USA, also with one penalty, 23.5 seconds back.Third went to Fredrik Lindstrom of Sweden, with one penalty, 33.7 seconds back.

Tora Defends in 15K Individual

Tora Berger became the first individual who won a World Championship last year to defend that title by taking the women’s 15K individual this evening. Berger shot clean while covering the tough 15K course in 44:52.5. Second went to Germany’s Andrea Henkel who also shot clean, but finished 52.7 seconds back. Her Silver medal was the first of these 2013 IBU World Championships for Germany. Third went to Valj Semerenko of Ukraine with one penalty, 1:42.5 back.

Spotlight on…Dmitry Malyshko Video

Russia’s Dmitry Malyshko crossed the finish line in first place three times in Oberhof; making him the latest star on the Russian team. That relay, sprint, pursuit triple helped make him one of the favorites for a medal during these IBU World Championships.
