Men s Sprint Stopped due to Heavy Fog

The men's 10k sprint competition at the IBU Open European Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria had to be stopped by jury decision due to heavy fog. It was not possible for some of the athletes to see the targets from the shooting ramp, fair conditions could not be guaranteed for all athletes. The new start time is scheduled for Sunday, February 24 at 12:00 local time/11:00 CET, the original start time for the pursuit competition. Other possible changes to the competition program are not decided on yet. The new entry lists for the men’s sprint are to be handed in by 16:00 local time, a new start list will be drawn. The men can participate in the official training scheduled later this afternoon, if they wish to do so. The women's 7.5k sprint is still scheduled for 15:00 local/ 14:00 Central European time today.

Russia Sweeps Junior Men’s Sprint

Russia swept junior men’s 10K sprint, taking the top three places at the IBU OECH in Bansko today. It was hardly surprising that Alexander Loginov and Maxim Tsvetkov battled for Gold uncontested. Both had one penalty but Loginov was 20 seconds faster. Behind them, Timur Makhambetov also had a penalty but was 1:01.1 back securing the Bronze.

Kaisheva Also Dominates at Junior Level

IBU Youth World Champion Uliana Kaisheva of Russia also claimed the junior women’s European Championship sprint title today in 25:04.6, with one penalty. She was 14.1 seconds faster than Lisa Theresa Hauser of Austria who shot clean. Floriane Parisse of France also shot clean but finished 32 seconds back.

Serhiy Semenov Wins European 20K Championship

Ukraine’s Serhiy Semenov won the men’s 20k individual competition at the IBU OECH today, in 52.50.2, with one penalty. Tobias Arwidson was 14.3 seconds back at the finish; the Swede shot clean today. Bronze went to Bulgaria’s Krasimir Anev with two penalties, 19.1 seconds back.

Zagoruiko Defends European Championship Title

Russia’s Anastasia Zagoruiko continued her successful season by defending her European Championship title in the women’s 15K individual, in 48:04.9 with clean shooting. Second place went to Ane Skrove Nossum of Norway with one penalty, 1:12.6 back. Bronze went to Monika Hojnisz from Poland with two penalties, 1:33.3 back.

Alexandr Loginov Dominates Junior Men’s 15K

Russia’s Alexandr Loginov, despite one penalty, won the junior men’s 15K individual competition in 42:57.9, with more than 2 minutes to spare. Second place went to his teammate Maxim Tsvetkov with two penalties, 2:09.8 back. Italy’s Benjamin Plaickner won Bronze with one penalty, 4:01.3 back.

Chevalier Wins First Gold in Bansko

France’s Anais Chevalier won the first Gold medal at the IBU Open European Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria in the junior women’s 12.5K individual competition today. Chevalier had one penalty in her 43:05.1 win. Second place went to Elena Ankundinova of Russia with two penalties, 55.7 seconds back. Third place went to Lisa Theresa Hauser of Austria also with two penalties, 1:17.8 back.

Germany and Ukraine Win Relays

The spectators at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon in Osrblie, SVK, saw two relay competitions at the same time today. In the end, the German men’s team won in 1:16:54.1 with 10 spare rounds finishing ahead of Norway and Russia. The Ukrainian women’s team won in 1:15:14.3 with Russia and Germany taking the Silver and Bronze medals.

Russia’s Loginov Tops Norwegian Duo

Russia’s Alexandr Loginov won the Gold medal in the junior men’s 15K individual today at the at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon in Osrblie, finishing ahead of Norwegians Johannes Thingnes Boe and Vetle Sjastad Christiansen. His winning time of 36.59.3 with one penalty gave the Russian a 6.6 second margin over Boe, who also had one penalty. Christiansen had two penalties, while finishing 1:48.5 back.

Gold for Norway’s Huber in Osrblie

Norway’s Marion Roenning Huber won the junior women’s 12.5K individual competition at the IBU Open European Championships Biathlon in Osrblie today. Her winning time of 39:13.7 with one penalty put her, 1:23.9 ahead of Olga Galich of Russia with two penalties. Nicole Gontier of Italy won the Bronze with three penalties, 1:37.9 back.
