Gold for Doll in Pursuit

Germany’s Benedikt Doll won the men’s 12.5K pursuit in 35:35 with three penalties, putting him 22.3 seconds ahead of Norway’s Vetle Sjastad Christiansen who also had three penalties. Third place went to Russia’s Timofey Lapshin with two penalties, 25.5 seconds back.

France Wins Junior’s Mixed Relay

The French team of Anais Chevalier, Floriane Parisse, Mathieu Legrand, and Quentin Fillon Maillet won the junior mixed relay at the IBU OECH in Bansko. With one penalty and 10 spare rounds, they were a mere one-tenth of a second faster than the Russian team. Elena Badanina, Elena Ankudinova, Alexander Chernyshov, and Timur Makhambetov needed 6 spare rounds. Third place went to Ukraine with Yuliya Zhuravok, Alla Gylenko, Ruslan Tkalenko and Artem Tyshchenko, 1:45.1 back, with eight spare rounds.

Men’s Sprint Stopped Again

The men’s sprint had to be stopped again due to heavy fog. A new start time for Monday, February 25 is currently being calculated and will be published as soon as it is available. The women’s 7.5k sprint and the junior women’s pursuit stay scheduled for today.

Women’s Sprint at IBU OECH Cancelled

The women’s sprint at the IBU OECH in Bansko, Bulgaria also had to be cancelled due to heavy fog. The athletes had started the zeroing but with heavy fog in the stadium, fair and even competitions for all athletes could not be guaranteed.

Men s Sprint Stopped due to Heavy Fog

The men's 10k sprint competition at the IBU Open European Championships in Bansko, Bulgaria had to be stopped by jury decision due to heavy fog. It was not possible for some of the athletes to see the targets from the shooting ramp, fair conditions could not be guaranteed for all athletes. The new start time is scheduled for Sunday, February 24 at 12:00 local time/11:00 CET, the original start time for the pursuit competition. Other possible changes to the competition program are not decided on yet. The new entry lists for the men’s sprint are to be handed in by 16:00 local time, a new start list will be drawn. The men can participate in the official training scheduled later this afternoon, if they wish to do so. The women's 7.5k sprint is still scheduled for 15:00 local/ 14:00 Central European time today.

Russia Sweeps Junior Men’s Sprint

Russia swept junior men’s 10K sprint, taking the top three places at the IBU OECH in Bansko today. It was hardly surprising that Alexander Loginov and Maxim Tsvetkov battled for Gold uncontested. Both had one penalty but Loginov was 20 seconds faster. Behind them, Timur Makhambetov also had a penalty but was 1:01.1 back securing the Bronze.

Kaisheva Also Dominates at Junior Level

IBU Youth World Champion Uliana Kaisheva of Russia also claimed the junior women’s European Championship sprint title today in 25:04.6, with one penalty. She was 14.1 seconds faster than Lisa Theresa Hauser of Austria who shot clean. Floriane Parisse of France also shot clean but finished 32 seconds back.

Serhiy Semenov Wins European 20K Championship

Ukraine’s Serhiy Semenov won the men’s 20k individual competition at the IBU OECH today, in 52.50.2, with one penalty. Tobias Arwidson was 14.3 seconds back at the finish; the Swede shot clean today. Bronze went to Bulgaria’s Krasimir Anev with two penalties, 19.1 seconds back.

Zagoruiko Defends European Championship Title

Russia’s Anastasia Zagoruiko continued her successful season by defending her European Championship title in the women’s 15K individual, in 48:04.9 with clean shooting. Second place went to Ane Skrove Nossum of Norway with one penalty, 1:12.6 back. Bronze went to Monika Hojnisz from Poland with two penalties, 1:33.3 back.
