Armgren Wins Sprint by a Heartbeat

Sweden’s Ted Armgren celebrated his second victory at IBU Cup 7 in Osrblie today when he won the men’s 10k sprint by less than a second. He shot clean and after touring the course in 24:57.2, he was only four tenths-of-a-second faster than Russia’s Alexey Slepov. The Russian had one penalty and went out on for his final lap still 16 seconds behind the winner. Third place went to Germany’s Daniel Böhm with clean shooting, 6.4 seconds back, who secured the Sprint Total Score in the IBU Cup.

Victory and Individual Score to Zagoruiko

Flawless shooting brought victory in the women’s 15K individual to Anastasia Zagoruiko today. The Russian needed just 44:04 Minute to secure the victory in the IBU Cup Individual Score. Second went to Germany’s Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle with two penalties, 1:18.0 back. Her teammate Maren Hammerschmidt was third, with flawless shooting, 1:35.0 back.

Target Roof Collapses In Osrblie; Competition Postponed

The roof over the targets collapsed under masses of wet, fresh snow at Osrblie this afternoon, postponing the women's 15K individual until Friday at 12:30. Start lists will remain the same. Although the roof collapsed during the zeroing, no one was hurt. The OC and its volunteers are now working on repairing the damage.

Erlend Bjoentegaard Doubles Up

An attack that could not be countered secured the victory for Norway’s Erlend Bjoentegaard in the men’s 12.5K pursuit at the IBU Cup 6 in Martell. He put 3.8 seconds between himself and Alexey Volkov of Russia on the last uphill after the two had been together the entire competition, both picking up two penalties. Christoph Stephan of Germany finished third, with four penalties, 1:00.5 back. This is his first podium in more than 2 years.

Second Victory for Karolin Horchler

Karolin Horchler of Germany won the pursuit today at IBU Cup 6 in Martell after her sprint victory yesterday. She needed 35.16.6 to cover the 10K course with two penalties. Second was Russia’s Anastasia Zagoruiko with four penalties, 10.6 back. Third went to Russia’s Svetlana Sleptsova with four penalties, 25.3 seconds back.

First IBU Cup Victory for Germany This Season

Germany’s Karolin Horchler claimed the first IBU Cup victory of the season today in Martell, Italy. Strong wind and snow left her unfazed; she shot clean and took the lead after the standing. After a total of 26:07.7 she was 1.5 seconds ahead of Russia’s Anastasia Zagoruiko who had one penalty. Third went to Ukrainian Iana Bondar with two penalties, 17.9 back.

Iourieva Dominates In Ostrov Pursuit

Russia’s Ekaterina Iourieva started first in today’s IBU Cup pursuit in Ostrov and was unchallenged in winning in 33:28.6, with a single penalty in the final standing stage. Germany’s Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle claimed second after a battle with Russia’s Valentina Nazarova in the final standing stage and the final 2K loop. Sachenbacher-Stehle prevailed for second with her superior speed on the tracks, finishing 40.6 seconds back. Nazarova was 55.3 seconds back with the same shooting results.

Sweep for Russia in Ostrov Pursuit

Russia swept the podium in the men’s 12.5K pursuit at IBU Cup 5.. Alexey Slepov won the pursuit after claiming the sprint title yesterday. He was followed by Aleksandr Pechenkin and Sergey Klyachin. Directly next to the podium was a fourth Russian athlete with Ivan Tcherezov in fourth, ahead of Austria’s Daniel Mesotitsch and Norway’s Martin Eng.

Triple for Iourieva

Russia’s Ekaterina Iourieva won her third women’s competition in a row today. After two victories at the IBU Cup 4 she also won the women’s 7.5K sprint at IBU Cup 5. All three women on the podium shot clean but Iourieva was the fastest with a time of 23:58.9. She was 6.8 seconds faster than her teammate Valentina Nazarova. Ane Skrove Nossum from Norway finished third, 10.8 seconds back.

Alexey Slepov Takes Ostrov Sprint

Russia's Alexey Slepov won the men's 10K sprint at IBU Cup 5 in Ostrov. Despite light snowfall but cheered on by the home crowd he needed 27:17.8 to be the fastest today, despite one penalty. Second place went to Sven Grossegger of Austria ahead of Germany's Daniel Böhm. Both shot clean and were 1.3 and 9.1 seconds back, respectively.
