Trip to National Park

Instead of having to fly from Canmore to Whistler, as was originally planned, the athletes had a day off between IBU Cups 6 and 7 yesterday. Many of them, as well as officials and team staff, went on a tour offered by the Organizing Committee to both Banff National Park and Lake Louise, the location of the alpine competitions, or to Calgary for shopping, which was added last minute on special request by some athletes.

Korovina and Smith Repeat

Canadian Nathan Smith shot clean to claim another victory in the second men’s 10k sprint at the IBU Cup 6 in Canmore. His time of 25:33.4 was 41.4 seconds ahead of Austria’s Friedrich Pinter. Third place went to Benedikt Doll of Germany with 3 penalties, 42.9 seconds back.

Home Victory for Nathan Smith in Canmore

Nathan Smith celebrated a victory at home in Canmore today by capturing the first sprint at the IBU Cup 6. His time of 26:13.4, with one penalty was enough to keep him ahead of Sergey Klyachin of Russia and Martin Eng of Norway. Clean-shooting Russian Marina Korovina won the women’s 7.5K sprint in 21:04.7, with Germans Carolin Hennecke and Juliane Döll in second and third, 2.5 and 9.1 seconds back, respectively.

Clean-Shooting Peiffer Takes Pursuit

Germany’s Arnd Peiffer moved from second in the sprint to first today in the men’s 12.5K pursuit, with a dominating clean shooting performance on the shooting range. Peiffer’s time of 31:44, put him 31.2 seconds ahead of Norway’s Emil Hegle Svendsen, with two penalties. Sprint winner Evgeniy Garanichev of Russia was third, also with two penalties, 36.3 seconds back.

Hafsas and Korovina Win Haute Maurienne Sprints

Ronny Hafsas of Norway and Marina Korovina of Russia won the sprint competitions at IBU Cup 5 in Haute Maurienne, France. Hafsas had two penalties and needed 26.06 for the 10K while Korovina missed once, needing just 21.02.3 to cover the 7.5K course.

Norway and Russia Take Exciting Relay Competitions

Norway and Russia won the relay competitions at IBU Cup 5 in Haute Maurienne, France, securing their victories in the final meters. While the Norwegian men had one penalty and needed 13 spare rounds, the Russian women needed 10 spare rounds while avoiding the penalty loop.

Russians Dominate Women’s Pursuit in Obertilliach

Ekaterina Glazyrina of Russia won the women’s 10K pursuit with perfect shooting in 32:47.6, finishing ahead of her teammate Ekaterina Shumilova with two penalties, 31.3 seconds back. Third place went to Monika Hojnisz of Poland with two penalties, 1.30.1 back.

Garanichev, Böhm and L’Abee-Lund on Top in Pursuit

Evgeniy Garanichev of Russia stayed on top in the men’s 12.5k pursuit competition at IBU Cup 3 in Obertilliach today. The winner of yesterday’s sprint won in 37:48.8 with four penalties ahead of yesterday’s second place finisher Daniel Böhm of Germany with two penalties, 19.2 seconds back. Third place went to Henrik L’Abee-Lund of Norway with one penalty, 34.9 seconds back.
