Landova and Bauer Win Pursuit Gold

Jitka Landova of Czech Republic won Gold in the women’s pursuit. Silver went to Russia’s Anna Boulygina ahead of Victoria Padial Hernandez. Hernandez’s Bronze is the first ever biathlon medal for the Southern European country. Klemen Bauer of Slovenia claimed the men’s pursuit Gold ahead of Italy’s Lukas Hofer and his teammate Markus Windisch.

Fialkova Sisters, Vojik Repeat Success

Sisters Paulina and Ivona Fialkova of Slovakia matched their junior women’ sprint success with Gold and Silver in the junior women’s pursuit. Behind them, four Russians followed with Bronze going to Kristina Ilchenko. Tomas Vojik of Czech Republic also won his second Gold while Dimitar Gerdzhikov of Bulgaria in Silver changed podium positions with Dino Butkovic of Croatia taking Bronze.

Sprint and mixed relay medals handed out

At the 2013 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Forni Avoltri, Italy, the medals for the mixed relay and sprint competitions were handed out last night. You can find pictures of all the medalists in the photo gallery. Today, starting from 9:30 am, the medals in the four pursuit competitions will be given out before these WCH end tonight.

Dorothea Wierer Leads Italian Success

Italy’s Dorothea Wierer spearheaded the success of her team by taking the women’s 7.5K sprint at the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships this afternoon. She won Gold over Czech Republic’s Jitka Landova, who was sandwiched between Wierer and her Bronze –winning teammate Karin Oberhofer, who was followed by two other teammates Federica Sanfilippo and Michela Ponza. Norway’s Jori Moerkve who frequently trains with the Italian team finished sixth.

Fialkova Sisters Finish 1-2

The sprint competitions took center stage at the 2013 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Forni Avoltri today, with the juniors competing in the morning and the seniors in the afternoon. In the junior women’s sprint, sisters Paulina and Ivona Fialkova of Slovakia took the top two spots. The junior men’s sprint world championship went to Czech Republic’s Tomas Vojik.

Official Training Impressions

At the 2013 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships Friday was the day of official training ahead of the sprint competitions. The athletes got to know the stadium and tracks. Some athletes and coaches had only arrived in the morning and only a few hours later could be seen exploring the most difficult turns on the tracks, the wind and light at the shooting range and also just enjoying some sunshine. Two Gold Medals for Russia

Russia won the Gold medal in both the junior and senior mixed relay competitions today at the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Forni Avoltri. Although scored separately, the two competitions were run simultaneously. Silver in the senior category went to Italy ahead of Slovakia; in the junior category Czech Republic won Silver and Italy won Bronze.

IBU Summer Biathlon WCH Opening Ceremony

Yesterday, the 2013 IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Forni Avoltri, Italy, began with a colorful opening ceremony. A parade through the village, dancing, speeches, a buffet and fireworks had everyone in a good mood. The first competition takes place today at 1 pm. Some pictures from the opening ceremony and village can be found in the picture gallery.

Semerenko and Volkov Take Pursuit Titles

Vita Semerenko of Ukraine won the women’s 10K pursuit competition in 30:32.8 today at the IBU Summer Biathlon World Championships in Ufa, Russia. Second went to Russia’s Olga Zaitseva, 28.3 seconds back, while third place went to Olena Pidhrushna of Ukraine, 46.3 seconds back. The junior women’s 10K pursuit was won by Olga Podchufarova of Russia, followed by Ukraine’s Iryna Varvynets and Russia’s Kristina Smirnova.

The Russian team again showed their depth and strength as they swept the junior women sprint this morning. 16 athletes from six nations (AUT, BUL, CZE, KAZ, RUS, UKR) were on the start.
